Pupils
at De La Salle School, St. Helens have been involved in a
16-day artist residency with artists Tony Knox and Lisa Barry.
The
project was funded by the Field Fund, a Trust Fund set up
by St. Helens Council with donations from Antony Gormley,
following the creation of the internationally acclaimed artwork,
Field for the British Isles, which was created in St Helens
in 1993.
The
residency which is entitled Superheroes is part of the Liverpool
Biennial, a two yearly visual arts festival being held from
September to November. It focuses upon everyone's identity.
Pupils were introduced to artwork by the artists in residence
and visited artworks at the Liverpool Biennial. They have
also been constructing characters and bringing them to life
through videos.
They
were initially introduced to the work of lead artist, Tony
Knox, during the popular St Helens Arts Festival in July,
when he staged a live art performance, in which his character
Mothman, wrestles with professional wrestlers. The artworks
produced during the residency will be shown in an exhibition
at 5athegallery,
St Helens and video artwork will be shown on the BBC Big Screen
in Liverpool.
